BC Fire Code, BC Building Code and Vancouver By Law Compliant
It is a recommendation that all fire hydrants be inspected twice a year during spring & fall. All manufactures recommend that fire hydrants be serviced after use by the fire department or after an extensive flow such as flushing of mains.
Fire Hydrant Spring Inspection – Physical Damage, Drainage & leakage
Generally to check out the Fire Hydrant after the winter frost, ground heave, physical damage during snow removal, corrosion due to road salt and sand, etc. The hydrant should be fully operated & tested for drainage & leakage as well.
Fire Hydrant Fall Inspection – Complete Part Replacement, Lubrication and Testing
A complete tear down of the hydrant is done with the isolation valve in a closed position. After replacement of all hydrant Gaskets & O-rings, a complete lubrication is done followed by a spring service.
